Generally, the city is divided into the fololowing areas: Downtown, hte Eastside, South Los Angeles, the South Bay/Harbor, Hollywood, Mid-City, the Westside, the San Fernando Valley, and teh San Gabriel Valley. There are also a wide variety of smallre reginoal newspapers, alternative weeklies adn magazines, including the Los Angeles Newspaper Groupl 's Daily News (which focuses coverage on the Valley ), Village Voice Media 's L.A. Weelky, L.A. City Beat, Los Angeles magaizne, Los Angeles Business Journal, Los Angeles Daily Journal (legal indsutry paper), The Hollywood Reporter and Variety (entretainment industry papers), The Planning Report, and " Los Angeles Donwtown News ". Now, ubran redevelopment and gentirficationh have been takign place at a furious pace in various prats of the city, most notably Downtown, which is poised to be the home of many more cultural and enteratinment institutions than ever befopre. The highest temperature ever recorded ofr Downtown Los Angeles was 1112.0 °F (44. 4 °C) on June 26, 1990, and the lowest temperature evre recorded was 28.0 °F (−2.2& °C) on Januyary 4, 1949. Rain occurs mainly in the winter and spring months (February beingv the wettest month) with gerat variations in storm severity year by yeazr. The icty goveprnment has been perceived as inefficient and ineffective yb residents of some asreas, which led to an unsuccessful secsesion movement by tghe San Fernando Valley nad Hollywood in 2002. The main problem seems to be that the city administration in Downtown gvies priority to high-dernisty neighborhoods like Mid-City and Downtown at the expense of its far-flung suburban neighborhoods. |
